Maestro Technologies (“Maestro,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates Shark Alert and sharkalert.app. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect information when you use sharkalert.app or subscribe to Shark Alert messages.
1. Information we collect
We may collect:
- Contact and subscription data: your mobile number, selected beach, alert radius, subscription status, and secure management token.
- Optional location lookup: if you choose “Use my location,” your browser sends a precise GPS point and accuracy estimate so we can calculate nearby active beaches. We process that point for the lookup and do not save the raw GPS point in our subscriber database. If you continue, we retain the beach area you confirm—not your device location.
- Consent records: the date, time, source page, wording version, and actions associated with opt-in, pause, resume, preference changes, and opt-out.
- Message records: messages prepared or sent, delivery status, carrier responses, opt-out or support requests, and provider message identifiers.
- Technical and security data: limited request information such as browser type, approximate network information, timestamps, and records needed to prevent abuse and secure the service.
- Correspondence: information you send when contacting support.
2. How we use information
We use information to identify nearby active beaches when you request that lookup; enroll and authenticate subscribers; send, route, and manage requested alerts; honor opt-out and support requests; maintain consent and delivery records; prevent fraud or misuse; troubleshoot and improve the service; comply with law; and protect subscribers, the public, and our rights.
3. Mobile information and SMS consent
We disclose mobile information only to vendors and telecommunications providers that help us operate requested messaging, to comply with law, or to protect legal rights and safety. SMS opt-in data and consent are not provided to third parties for their own marketing.
4. Service providers and disclosures
We may use infrastructure, database, security, analytics, customer-support, and telecommunications vendors—including Cloudflare and our messaging provider—to process data on our behalf. These providers receive only information reasonably necessary to perform their services and are subject to contractual or legal duties. We may also disclose information when required by law, to investigate abuse, during a business transaction, or with your direction.
5. Retention
We retain active subscription data while you use the service. We may retain opt-out, consent, delivery, security, and legal records after service ends when reasonably necessary to honor your choices, prevent unwanted messages, resolve disputes, and meet legal or carrier obligations. Data that no longer serves a legitimate purpose is deleted or de-identified.
6. Security
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards. No internet or telecommunications system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. Management links are private access credentials; do not share them.
7. Your choices
You may pause, resume, or stop alerts through your secure management link. Reply STOP to end SMS messages. For assistance or to request access, correction, or deletion, email support@sharkalert.app. Some records may be retained where required for compliance, fraud prevention, or suppression of future messages.
Location access is optional and controlled through your browser or device settings. You may always choose a beach manually instead.
8. Children
The service is not directed to children under 13. Subscribers must be at least 18 years old or have permission from a parent or legal guardian who controls the mobile account.
9. State and international privacy rights
Depending on where you live, applicable law may provide additional rights to know, access, correct, delete, or restrict certain uses of personal information. We will not discriminate against you for exercising a privacy right. Shark Alert’s SMS program is currently offered only for U.S. mobile numbers.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy as the service changes. We will post the revised effective date and provide additional notice when legally required. Continued use after an update is governed by the revised Policy, subject to applicable law.
